With over 30 years of complex commercial litigation experience under his belt, Edward (Ted) R. Coulson brings a cut-to-the-chase approach and an unmatched insight into the intricacies of complex commercial and construction law to SLC. A seasoned trial lawyer who knows the issues, knows what’s important, and knows how to build a solid case, Ted is a formidable litigator.
His broad experience with owners, developers, contractors, design professionals, product manufacturers and others in the industry has honed his “show strength early on” style. Diplomatic and fair with a talent for persuasion, Ted knows how to set the stage for a better deal. His ability to build a compelling story provides clients with the opportunity to get more out of the creative process and achieve closure sooner – rather than later – as economically as possible.
Ted’s business savvy, knowledge of emerging technologies and skill in managing multi-player, convoluted cases adds considerable firepower to a firm known for some of the best problem-solving lawyers in the business. He understands what it means to have a stake in the outcome, is a strong client advocate and thrives in a culture that puts accessibility, availability and responsiveness first.
Mr. Coulson holds a B.S. degree from the United States Air Force Academy, an M.S. degree from the University of Southern California, and a J.D. degree from the University of California School of Law at Davis. Prior to joining the firm he worked at Foster Pepper PLLC as the chair of their construction practice group. Ted lives with his wife in the Magnolia neighborhood. They have four adult children and relish the joys (and challenges) of eight young grandchildren who provide rambunctious after work entertainment. In addition, Ted is an avid runner who also enjoys skiing, traveling and pinball.
